Genesis Chapter 1 : Verse 2 Now the earth was a formless void, there was darkness over the deep, and God’s spirit hovered over the water.

Gn 2:7 (breathed into – wind, breath)

Genesis Chapter 2 : Verse 7 Yahweh God fashioned man of dust from the soil. Then he breathed into his nostrils a breath of life, and thus man became a living being.

1Samual 16:13 (anointing of David)

1 Samuel Chapter 16 : Verse 13 At this, Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him, surrounded by his brothers; and the spirit of Yahweh seized on David from that day onwards. Samuel, for his part, set off and went to Ramah.

Isaiah 11:1-4 (gifts of the spirit)

Isaiah Chapter 11 : Verses 1 to 4

Verse 1 A shoot will spring from the stock of Jesse, a new shoot will grow from his roots.

Verse 2 On him will rest the spirit of Yahweh, the spirit of wisdom and insight, the spirit of counsel and power, the spirit of knowledge and fear of Yahweh:

Verse 3 his inspiration will lie in fearing Yahweh. His judgement will not be by appearances. his verdict not given on hearsay.

Verse 4 He will judge the weak with integrity and give fair sentence for the humblest in the land. He will strike the country with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his lips bring death to the wicked.

      

NEW TESTAMENT

Mark 1:10 (Baptism of Jesus – Dove)

Mark Chapter 1 : Verse 10 And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, like a dove, descending on him.

Luke 4:18 (Good News to the poor)

Luke Chapter 4 : Verse 18 The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,

John 20:22 (upper room, Risen Christ)

John Chapter 20 : Verse 22 After saying this he breathed on them and said: Receive the Holy Spirit.

Verse 22 On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,

Verse 23 gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.

Acts 2:1-4 (Pentecost – flames)

Acts Chapter 2 : Verses 1-4

Verse 1 When Pentecost day came round, they had all met together,

Verse 2 when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which filled the entire house in which they were sitting;

Verse 3 and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them.

Verse 4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave them power to express themselves.

Acts 6:6 (Laying of hands)

Acts Chapter 6 : Verse 6 They presented these to the apostles, and after prayer they laid their hands on them.
